Turning Dreams Into Reality: A Backyard Transformation

When it comes to maximizing living space, the boundaries shouldn't end at the walls of your home. Recently, we had the pleasure of assisting a customer in transforming a neglected portion of their backyard into a stunning entertainment area. Here's a glimpse into the challenges we faced and the innovative solutions that turned their vision into reality.

Challenges Faced by the Customer:

1. Sloped Yard: The natural terrain of the backyard featured a significant slope, making it unsuitable for conventional use.
2. Proximity to Deck Supports: Proximity to the supports for the second-floor deck posed a structural challenge.
3. Preservation of Natural Stone Steps: The area also included beautiful natural stone steps that the customer wanted to preserve and incorporate into the new design.

Innovative Solutions Implemented:

1. Stone Retaining/Sitting Wall: To address the sloped yard and create a level surface, we installed a stone retaining/sitting wall along the entire outer edge of the patio. This not only added structural support but also enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the space.
2. Boxing Out Deck Footings: We extended the sitting wall strategically to box out the concrete footings for the second-floor deck. This seamless integration ensured both functionality and visual continuity.
3. Preservation of Natural Stone Steps: Rather than removing the natural stone steps, we devised a custom solution. Using core drilling techniques and concrete, we installed a custom railing onto the existing stone steps, blending old and new elements seamlessly.

The Result:
The culmination of these efforts resulted in a backyard oasis that exceeded the customer's expectations. What was once an unused and challenging area is now a focal point for gatherings, relaxation, and enjoyment. The level patio provides ample space for seating and activities, while the preserved natural elements add a touch of rustic charm.
